I have never felt sadder or more ashamed of being an American. The way we are treating immigrants is just wrong. I've always been troubled by how cruel we can be to each other. Whenever one group gains power over another and deems them "The Other" horrible things happen. I'd like to think things will straighten out and as a nation we will come to our senses, though this time I'm afraid they might not.
What I'm afraid will happen is that people will be pushed to the point of backlash and it will be ugly. I'm old enough to remember the 1967 riots in Detroit where swaths of the city were burned to the ground. I keep envisioning the dystopian movies where the poor hordes will be tearing down the gated communities of the rich and killing everyone in sight. If we don't change soon this could happen.
The US is the richest nation in the world, yet the top 1% and top 0.1% has endless greed. They also display endless cruelty. I pray that sanity will prevail before the worst happens. We only need to look at 20th century history for examples.

We need to remember our power. We need to remember what "united we stand" really means. We need to understand what it means when we say that freedom isn't free. I wake up saddened and enraged every day that my tax dollars and yours—are helping to fund the dehumanization of other human beings who do not deserve the mistreatment they are receiving. All the while, those who violate and mistreat women, children, the poor, sick, and disadvantaged gain from the systems they have set in place. They profit from our hard work while causing us injury and we keep giving them our hard work and our money to do it. We need a revolt. We need to organize. United we stand.
