When the Wind Speaks: On Listening to the Earth & Sharing What We Learn

There are moments when language fails—not out of inadequacy, but out of reverence. Some experiences live so deep in the body or so far beyond it that they can only be hinted at. They arrive like gusts of wind across the back of your neck, a pull in your gut, or the sense that something is shifting just beyond what you can see.

This song, Whispering Winds, came from that place.

It began as a poem, and it could have lived on my computer as words on a screen. However, as I continued to write it—it continued to come to life. I realized it had a pulse. It was asking for breath. It needed to move. It needed a voice. It needed to become something more—to be carried on sound, to be shared aloud like a secret passed between earth and sky.

While writing, I listened as the words moved through me and chose the page. There’s a line in the song that says, “As poets often do, I’ll listen to you…” That’s what this piece is about—listening intently to shared energy and allowing language to take form intuitively.

The Earth Has a Voice

I believe we’re all born with the ability to hear the world—not just the literal sounds of it, but the meaning at its core. Somewhere along the way, most of us are taught to filter out this essence. We’re taught to prioritize logic, structure, utility. We’re taught to live without authentically connecting with our own spirits or to listen to the spirits of the earth.

And yet, the earth continues to speak in many ways. It has its own language—ancient and resonant—embedded in the howl of wind, the pressure drop before a storm, and the silent grandeur felt in a mountain scape. When I wrote this piece, I felt a kind of transmission. Lately, music has become the only way I can fully hold and transmute all that I sense.

Channeling the Invisible

Bringing this song to life through an AI music generator was an intimate process. I gave it detailed emotional and stylistic guidance—not just genre labels, but mood, texture, and intention. I wanted something dark, ethereal, and a little haunting. Think witchy-electro-pop, but rooted in something older than genre.

The result is a piece that feels like it came through me, not from me.

It’s brooding, but not despairing. Spiritual, but not didactic. It carries something sacred I chose not to name—because maybe it’s meant to resonate differently for each listener.

For Those Who Feel Too Much

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by what you sense in the world—if you’ve been called too sensitive or found yourself dancing or crying for no reason during a thunderstorm—you’re not alone. This song is for you.

It’s for those who sense the vibration of something unspoken and want to answer it.

You don’t have to explain it. You just have to feel it.

Whispering Winds by Michelle Ried

Sense the wisdom of the wind,
can you feel it
as it whispers...
a ghost haunting the spirit?

Ohhh… whispering winds call out to me.
Tell me the sky’s dark secrets.
I’ll tell the world what you need…ohhh…
I’m listening, unafraid to speak.
As poets often do, I’ll listen to you.
Ohhh… Whispering winds, ohhh… whispering winds…mmm…

There’s a storm rolling in; I can feel it.
The winds are growing colder, louder,
Growing stronger… ohhh…
Swelling seas and rising tides,
Brooding clouds over angry skies,
The earth rejects our human lies.
Listen now to the earth’s warning cries.

Ohhh… whispering winds call out to me.
Tell me the sky’s dark secrets.
I’ll tell the world what you need…ohhh…
I’m listening, unafraid to speak.
As poets often do, I’ll listen to you.
Ohhh… Whispering winds, ohhh… whispering winds…mmm…

Kicking back, sensing the vibe.
Knowing lingers on the other side.
Language forms to describe—
All I can’t in my own mind. mmm… oohhh…
A tantric state, unheard and blind.
An understanding of another kind.
Ohhh… How do I explain how this comes to be? …mmmm…
Whispering wind is a prayer—it’s energy. (Energy…)

Ohhh… whispering winds call out to me.
Tell me the sky’s dark secrets.
I’ll tell the world what you need…ohhh…
I’m listening, unafraid to speak.
As poets often do, I’ll listen to you.
Ohhh… Whispering winds, ohhh… whispering winds…mmm…

Whispering, I’m listening… I hear you calling…
Whispering winds… ahhhh….ahhh….
I’m listening…I’m listening…(whispering) (whispering winds)
